biography

Tess Levinson uses wax to create unique, unpredictable, & unusual works of art. Beginning her training in Thailand in the ancient art of Encaustic, she fell in love with wax. From molding and sculpting candles, to painting fine art pieces with wax. Each piece reflects an inspirational journey of layered wax, where color and transparencies melt and shape together in a ode to life, grief, light and love.

While most artists have one style of work, you'll find as a collector, she prefers to create what inspires her. Her fine art can range from abstract paintings, to mixed media art, photo encaustic and designer candles.

Art has been her therapy and joy. In her biography, you can read her journey of surviving grief and the rollercoaster of life.

On July 13, 2018, 1 lost my son, Cameron.

My life changed forever that day and every day since I have struggled with heartache, sadness, my faith, and the ups and downs of life.

An intense yearning for light - to find and create it - led me to Thailand to begin my art journey. I have experienced a deep personal loss, my son Cameron, my daughter, my mother and other loved ones. I needed to find a way to honor my angels.

I needed to find a way to keep going.

My husband encouraged me to find a way to honor our angels and help others who were grieving or struggling with life like we were. I felt like the world had gone dark. I needed to find the light to go on and keep living.

In 2018, I left for Thailand to study to become a Chandler (candle maker). I wanted to find a way to light the darkness I was feeling. My idea was to create candles that people could light in memory of their loved ones or as a way to light the darkness they might be feeling in life in general.

So this was how and why my art journey began. I learned to make candles that I feel brighten the world and also discovered painting with wax, which has continued my art therapy and love for creating art.

Now I not only create candles and wax art, I’ve found a way to teach others what I’ve learned through experience and workshops. Hopefully this will help brighten lives and bring joy to others.

I really want to try to brighten people's day, inspire positivity, and hopefully make the day a little brighter.

I continue to study and learn under the best teachers in the world. Art is my therapy and I hope the piece I’ve created brings you joy and inspiration.

I appreciate your support, and should you ever want me to create a commission piece of art just for you, it would be my honor. I also have experience classes (which I think is great therapy) and co-creation pieces, where we can create piece of art together.

Sending LOVE AND LIGHT
